Communications Policy

Bermuda Foundation Website & Services

Effective Date: January 1, 2025

Introduction & Scope

We welcome the wide variety of donors’ interest in philanthropy and we want to ensure that your grant contributions to nonprofit and its impact are shared as widely as you wish.  The following provides guidance on the Bermuda Foundation’s (BF) communication policies, including use of language, use of BF’s logo and how we communicate about and for donors, nonprofits and grants.

FROM YOU TO THE PUBLIC ABOUT US, YOUR FUND, OR YOUR GRANTS

Publicity Policy

You may disclose BF’s support freely, but please let us review, in advance, any press release or similar announcement that mentions BF before its publication.

We request that all collateral, print, broadcast or other material crediting or mentioning BF be sent to the Managing Director for review and approval prior to usage. Please seek approval from BF’s Managing Director for each usage. We will respond promptly (within 3 days) to any request for approval of proposed communications.

When BF is mentioned in copy, please refer to the foundation as “Bermuda Foundation”.  We ask that these steps be taken to ensure that mentions of BF are accurate.

Media Relations

Mentions of Donor Funds at BF

If you are a donor fund holder and wish to mention your Donor Fund at BF, you should use the following attribution format: the XXX [Name of your fund] Fund at the Bermuda Foundation.  Please let us review and approve, in advance, any press release or similar announcement that mentions BF before its publication.

Mentions of Grants and Grantees

If you are a donor fund holder and wish to announce a grant made through BF, you may want to consider our philosophy about publicizing and featuring you and your grantees, and our grantees (see below).

 Our Philosophy about Publicity

Our Success Is In Helping Donors Meet Their Philanthropic Objectives and Helping Nonprofits Deliver on their Missions

We believe that donors and grantees should receive the primary credit for the work that they do. It is only through their hard work and commitment that grants made through and by BF can make an impact on the lives of residents and in the community.

    • As such, mentions of BF should always be secondary to mentions of donor funder and/or grantee. Any mention of BF should be framed in the context of the work being done by the funder or grantee organisation rather than in the context of the grant received.
    • We aim to put the primary focus of grantmaking impact on funders’ and grantees’ work.

Using the BF Logo

    • Permission must be received to use BF’s logo for each use, along with any accompanying test. We will ask that any misuse of the logo or use without approval be rectified immediately by correction or removal.
    • BF’s logo should not be altered in any way (e.g., color and/or dimensions). Care should be taken to maintain the design and appearance of the logo.
    • To obtain a file of the BF logo, please contact the BF Office at 441-294-4959.

BF Boilerplate

BF’s boilerplate should be used at the end of any press release where it is mentioned.  This boilerplate should appear below the boilerplate(s) of the funder(s), grantee(s) and other actively involved organisations.

About the Bermuda Foundation

The Bermuda Foundation (BF) is a limited liability and segregated accounts company, registered as Bermuda charity #948. Its mission is to create an enduring source of funds forever dedicated to the good of Bermuda. BF improves and strengthens Bermuda’s social sector by assisting donors of all kinds to make the most of their generosity. As a public grantmaking foundation, its resources go towards creating a permanent asset base for the public benefit by stewarding and investing charitable gifts from the community, grantmaking, and responsibly managing its operations. BF was founded in 2013 by The Atlantic Philanthropies, the Buchanan Charitable Fund and RenaissanceRe with support from private donors and nonprofits that established their own endowed agency funds to be managed at the foundation. Bloomberg Philanthropies, Hemera Foundation, Allan & Gill Gray Foundation, AxaXL Foundation, and Meritus Trust Company also made key contributions. BF benefits from the professional support of PwC who conduct its annual audit and from Conyers Dill & Pearman.
