Our Team

Bermuda Foundation’s board is comprised of strong, committed, community members with experience in business, finance, philanthropy, community, investment and management. All board and committee members are volunteers and are unpaid for their work in these roles.

Amanda Outerbridge

Board Chair

Amanda is Head of Communications at the Bermuda Monetary Authority. She was formerly Director of Philanthropy for the XL Group and Executive Director of the XL Foundation. Until 2015, she was Chair of the Bermuda Donor Forum. Previous roles have included: Executive Director of the Bermuda National Trust, a nonprofit focused on conservation, education and advocacy; Editor of the Mid-Ocean News, Assistant Editor of The Royal Gazette, and Executive Editor of Bermuda Business. She is a Justice of the Peace and a member of the Bermuda Media Council.

Brian O’Hara

Director

Brian has served as Chairman of the XL Capital Ltd. Board of Directors, and President and CEO of XL. He has also been director or trustee of the International Insurance Society, ABIR, Insurance Information Institute, American Institute for Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters, the School of Risk Management, Insurance & Actuarial Science at St. John’s University, Geneva Association, and the International Business Forum. He continues to serve as Chairman of Front Street Advisors Ltd., and as a Director of BIOS, Roundtable Healthcare Partners, American Revival Fund LP, and the US Chamber of Commerce.

Nikkita Scott

Director

Nikkita is Director of Counselling & Student Activities for Bermuda College. At the College since 2000, she has worked as counsellor, assisted with programme review and development, and been advisor to Student Government Council. Nikkita is past Chair of the Commission for Unity & Racial Equality, a former member of the Name & Recognition Committee, and past Chair of the United World Colleges Selection Committee for Bermuda.

Gavin Barlow

Director

Gavin is the financial controller for Freisenbruch Insurance Limited. He is a chartered accountant with experience in external auditing, risk and controls, and governance in the public and private sectors. He has spent a significant portion of his career working with Supreme Audit Institutions in South Africa, St Helena and most recently, Bermuda.

He has a keen interest in sustainability related matters, including Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and climate risk, and how companies navigate the risks and opportunities presented by developments in these areas.

Diana Darrell

Director

Diana is Director, Portfolio Manager and Head of Corporate Credit for Arch Investment Management Ltd., with over a decade of experience in financial markets. She is responsible for Arch’s offshore USD fixed-income assets.  Diana has experience in trading, asset allocation, and ESG. She has a Bachelor of Arts from Tufts University and an MBA from the NYU, Stern School of Business.

Grant Hopkins

Director

Grant is Head of Financial Planning & Analysis at Mosaic Insurance, a global specialty insurer founded in Bermuda in 2021. Previous roles included VP Transformation Office at Liberty Mutual Insurance, VP Planning and Strategy at Ironshore Inc., and General Manager for LOM Asset Management Limited.

Grant currently serves as a Trustee for the Bermuda National Sports Centre, is on the Finance Committee at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club, and is a Director of a portfolio of Bermuda-based mutual funds. He holds a dual BA from Johns Hopkins University, with Honors, in Economics and International Affairs. He is a Hodson Trust Scholar, a CFA charterholder and holds the CPCU and ARe insurance designations. 

Dwayne Hunt

Director

Dwayne joined Hamilton Re. Bermuda as a Vice President in their Property Insurance Department in September 2020. Previous roles included Senior VP for London-based Neon Limited, Senior Vice President/Manager of ACE Bermuda’s Property Department and VP in Arch Insurance Bermuda’s Property Division. Dwayne began his insurance career in 1996 as an Administrative Casualty Broker with Johnson and Higgins. He later joined XL Re Ltd. as an Assistant Underwriter in their Risk Solutions/Integrated Risks Division and later became a Property Underwriter with XL Bermuda’s Insurance operations.

Dwayne is a graduate of the School of Business at Mount Ida College where he obtained an Associate in Science Degree in May 1993. Dwayne also attended the St. John’s University School of Risk Management (fka The College of Insurance) where he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree (Business Administration/Risk Management) in the fall of 1995.

Myra Virgil

CEO & Managing Director

Myra is the CEO and Managing Director of the Bermuda Community Foundation. Before stepping into this role, she was the Programme Executive for The Atlantic Philanthropies with responsibility for seeking investment opportunities in Bermuda that fit with the foundation’s mission and global programmes. Previously, Myra was Director of Human Affairs with the Bermuda Government, overseeing the operations of the Human Rights Commission, Commission for Unity and Racial Equality (CURE), Consumer Affairs Bureau and National Office for Seniors (and disabilities portfolio).

In 2007 and 2008, she served as Acting Permanent Secretary for the Ministry. Before assuming this role, she headed CURE, the country’s only statutory race relations body at the time. A social worker by profession, trained and educated in Canada, prior to returning to Bermuda in 2001, Myra managed a team of youth and family practitioners for the Government of Quebec, and served as Chair of the Board of Youth In Motion, an inner-city, grassroots nonprofit. Myra was also a faculty member at Vanier College, lecturing in the field of Special Care Counselling.

Myra holds a Bachelor of Arts (Sociology), Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work degrees from McGill University and a Ph.D. in Social Science (Organisational Behaviour and Psychology) from Tilburg University in the Netherlands. She is married and a proud mother of two girls. She hopes, through her work, to inspire in them a passion for responsible citizenry and social consciousness.

Sarah Marcotte

Accountant

Sarah is a project consultant at Island Employment Partners and in this capacity, has served as the Accountant at the Bermuda Foundation since 2020. She holds her Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation in Canada and Bermuda. She has experience in audit, the insurance industry and the nonprofit sector, including serving as a volunteer treasurer for a nonprofit organization in Bermuda.

Lisa Simpson

Programme Coordinator

Lisa joined the Bermuda Foundation as a programme associate in March 2022. Her previous work experience was primarily in the media industry, having worked as a reporter at the local newspaper for four years upon moving to Bermuda. She has also worked as a scholarship coordinator for a private trust company. Her educational background is in archaeology. She completed her master’s degree at the University of Sheffield in 2013.

Marie-Hélène Paré

Operations Associate

The Bermuda Foundation welcomed Marie in March 2024 as an operations associate. Prior to moving to Bermuda and working as an Office Manager for the family business, Marie was employed with one of the leading car rental companies in Canada for nearly 20 years. She held positions such as District and Fleet Manager. Since arriving on the island, she also joined The African Risk Capacity Insurance Company Limited as a Bilingual Administrative Assistant. She continues to work for the family company.
