GiveBermuda FAQs

General

What is GiveBermuda?

GiveBermuda is an online directory and giving platform operated by the Bermuda Foundation.

It provides a trusted, searchable listing of Bermuda’s nonprofit organisations and makes it easy for donors to support the causes they care about through secure online donations. Each profile provides a concise overview of an organisation’s mission and work, along with key contact information and a way for donors to make secure online donations.

Through GiveBermuda:

    • Donors can explore Bermuda’s nonprofit sector in one place

    • All listed organisations can receive online credit card donations

    • Eligible gifts from U.S. taxpayers can be facilitated through the Foundation’s U.S. 501(c)3 facility, Friends of the Bermuda Foundation

Profiles are designed to:

    • Help donors understand an organisation’s purpose at a glance
    • Provide a trusted point of connection between donors and nonprofits
    • Enable online giving in a simple, accessible way

GiveBermuda is designed to support informed, confident giving and to strengthen the nonprofit sector by making giving simpler and more accessible.

GiveBermuda profiles are intentionally streamlined. Organisations are encouraged to share more detailed information, reports, and updates through their own websites and communications.

We encourage all donors to give directly to the groups and causes you care about. GiveBermuda is a tool meant to supplement your giving options, where local nonprofits may not have their own online giving platforms or capacity to issue eligible U.S. tax receipts.

Where does the information come from?

Information on GiveBermuda is provided by participating organisations as part of their profile and registration process. Organisations are responsible for reviewing and updating their information so that donors can access current details about their work.

The Bermuda Foundation reviews submissions for eligibility and completeness before profiles are published. Organisations are also asked to confirm or update their information periodically to help ensure accuracy and currency.

While the Foundation takes reasonable steps to maintain the integrity of the directory, responsibility for the accuracy of profile content rests with the submitting organisation.

Why might an organisation not be listed on GiveBermuda?

Only organisations with current Bermuda registered charitable status are eligible to be featured on GiveBermuda.

In addition, organisations must apply and complete the eligibility process in order to be listed. Not all eligible organisations may choose to do so.

GiveBermuda does not generally profile religious organisations operating primarily for religious purposes. However, some community programmes operated through a religious organisation may be considered on a case-by-case basis where they serve the wider community.

If a nonprofit you wish to support is not currently listed, we encourage you to contact the organisation directly and invite them to explore creating a profile.

For Donors

How does giving through GiveBermuda work?

All online donations made through GiveBermuda are received by the Bermuda Foundation and directed, at the donor’s recommendation, to the selected nonprofit organisation, subject to confirmation of the organisation’s good standing.

Donations made by credit card generate an automatic email confirmation at the time the gift is made. Once processed, funds are granted to the recommended nonprofit, typically within two to six weeks, depending on the timing of the donation and processing requirements.

For U.S. taxpayers, eligible donations may be facilitated through the Bermuda Foundation’s U.S. 501(c)(3) partner, Friends of the Bermuda Foundation, making those gifts tax-deductible in the United States.

GiveBermuda may not be used to sell tickets, products, services, or any items where the donor receives goods or services of market value in return for their donation.

Can I make a U.S. tax-deductible donation through GiveBermuda?

Eligible gifts from U.S. taxpayers may be facilitated through the Bermuda Foundation’s U.S. 501(c)(3) partner, Friends of Bermuda Community Foundation. This enables qualifying gifts to be treated as tax-deductible in the United States, subject to applicable requirements.

Can my Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) make a grant through GiveBermuda and/or Friends of BCF?

We welcome US tax-deductible gifts supporting Bermuda registered charities through our US 501(c)(3) facility, Friends of BCF. The simplest route is GiveBermuda.org, which is designed specifically for this purpose.

Some DAF managers ask local nonprofits and charities to set up and maintain profiles on their internal platforms. Because we focus our capacity on strengthening Bermuda’s third sector, we limit how many external platforms we maintain and make this assessment on case-by-case basis. If you plan to recommend a DAF grant, please contact us in advance and introduce us to your DAF team — we’ll propose the most efficient route (GiveBermuda, or direct wire/bank transfer where available) and confirm any requirements and timelines.

Please note that platform-specific onboarding and any additional reporting requirements may sit outside our standard GiveBermuda processing and may be subject to an additional administrative fee.

Can I make an anonymous donation?

Yes. When completing a donation through GiveBermuda, donors may choose to give anonymously.

If this option is selected:

  • The nonprofit organisation will receive the donation amount only

  • No donor name or contact information will be shared with the organisation

The Bermuda Foundation will still retain the information required to process and receipt the donation in accordance with its policies and legal obligations.

Are there any fees when I donate through GiveBermuda?

A 5% administrative fee is charged on each donation to cover credit card processing and platform administration costs. Further details are available here.

At the point of giving, donors may choose to make an additional contribution to help offset these costs.

When does my donation reach the organisation I choose?

Donations made through GiveBermuda are processed as part of the Bermuda Foundation’s regular reconciliation and grantmaking cycle.

    1. Donors receive an acknowledgement of their gift at the time the donation is made
    2. Recipient organisations are notified by email of pending payments
    3. We aim to send these notifications within eight business days of the start of each month

To receive funds, organisations will be asked to:

    • Log into the Foundation’s grant management system
    • Complete a short grant acceptance form confirming gift details
    • Provide or confirm banking information for electronic payment

Payments are made by online bank transfer and are typically processed:

    • Mid-month and month-end for most of the year
    • Month-end only in July and August
    • Mid-month only in December

For inclusion in:

    • Mid-month payments, documentation must be completed by the 13th of the month
    • Month-end payments, documentation must be completed by the 25th of the month

Submissions received after these dates will be rolled into the next payment cycle.

What does GiveBermuda do with donor information?

GiveBermuda does not sell or share donor information with other organisations or third parties.

The Bermuda Foundation may contact donors for purposes related to:

  • Gift acknowledgements and receipts

  • User surveys

  • Newsletters and platform updates

  • Information about GiveBermuda or the Bermuda Foundation

  • General education about philanthropy and community giving

All donor information is handled in accordance with the Foundation’s Privacy Policy.

As part of the eligibility review process, organisations must also demonstrate that they are in good standing, including having up-to-date financial accounts, an active board or management committee, and a governing document.

What’s in it for my organisation?

GiveBermuda is an online directory and giving platform that makes it easier for donors to discover and support Bermuda’s nonprofit organisations.

By creating a GiveBermuda profile, your organisation can:

Are fees assessed on donations made through GiveBermuda?

A 5% administrative fee is assessed on each standard pass-through donation made via GiveBermuda to cover credit card processing and platform administration costs.

At the point of giving, donors may also choose to make an additional contribution to help offset these costs. Further details are available here.

How do I create a GiveBermuda profile?

GiveBermuda profile applications are managed through our grant management system (GLM). Please log in, or create an account, and then navigate to the Apply page.

You will be prompted to complete a profile registration form, which collects information such as your mission, background, needs, impact, contact details, and supporting documentation.

Once submitted:

  • Profiles are reviewed by the Foundation for eligibility and completeness

  • Reviews are typically conducted monthly

  • Approved profiles are published publicly on GiveBermuda, and the organisation becomes eligible to receive donations through the platform

If you require a more urgent review, please contact us.

We ask organisations to check with us before publishing or distributing fundraising messages that reference GiveBermuda, Friends of the Bermuda Foundation, or other Bermuda Foundation services, so we can help ensure accuracy.

How do I receive donor contact information?

When available, donor contact information is shared with the recipient organisation on the grant agreement the organisation is asked to review and sign once a donation has been processed. In some cases, donor information may be limited if the donor has chosen to remain anonymous or has not provided full contact details.
